Horsehead Nebula

Description
The Horsehead Nebula is a cold cloud composed mainly of dust,
ice particles and hydrogen gas about 1500 LY away in the Orion Arm
of the Milky Way galaxy.
Behind this cloud are numerous hot, young stars which emit intense
ultraviolet radiation.
This radiation causes the hydrogen gas surrounding these stars to
flouresce creating a silouette.
The direct light from some of these stars is absorbed by the cloud,
hiding them from view.
Over the next billion years, more new stars will be born within
the dark cloud altering its appearance.
